Concerts and events

Daniel Finkernagel and Alexander Lück host the live streaming of the guest performance of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie on Monday. Jörg Widmann conducts and plays clarinet in works by himself, Mendelssohn and Schumann, in the Digital Concert Hall of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

On March 18 and 20, the Kuss Quartet with Mikayel Hakhnazaryan will perform two concerts with parts of the Beethoven cycle in the Piano Salon Christophori. On Friday and Saturday two concerts will follow at the Ickinger Frühling of the "Klangwelt Klassik". Here, you will also get the chance to see the Doric String Quartet on stage this Sunday. The Novus String Quartet will give a concert at the Philharmonie Köln on March 22. The program includes works by Respighi, Berg and Dvorak.

Iason Keramidis is also a guest at the Philharmonie Köln this week. On March 20, the violinist gives a concert there with the Lithuania Symphony Orchestra. Sophia Jaffé plays two concerts on Monday and Tuesday with the Philharmonie Rostock under Marcus Bosch. There she performs Prokofiev's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 in G minor op. 63. The Amaryllis Quartet with Tomoko Akasaka is on tour from March 20 to 23, with performances in Mannheim and in northern Germany. At the concert in the Sendesaal Bremen, the ensemble will also be accompanied by Barbara Buntrock. From Sunday on, Tomoko Akasaka will be a juror at the Max Rostal International Viola Competition. Nils Mönkemeyer plays a concert with William Youn on March 24 at the Aachen Town Hall. For the cellist Oren Shevlin the week starts with a concert with the ensemble of the KammerMusikKöln in the Historisches Gemeindesaal Bonn. The event is titled "You are so dear to me" and presents works by Robert and Clara Schumann as well as by Johannes Brahms. Claudio Bohórquez gives two concerts on Monday and Tuesday with the Scharoun Ensemble in Chapel Hill and Harrisonburg. The ensemble is going to perform works by Mozart, Schubert and Shepherd.

Aldo Baerten invites you to the Open Day at HKU Utrecht on Saturday. In Weinheim a concert of the Aris Quartet with Thorsten Johanns takes place on the same day. The program includes works by Haydn, Janacek and Brahms. "Kostbares Holz" is the name of an event in Dresden: on Sunday there will be a concert of the Camerata Dresden with Philipp Zeller and works for woodwinds.

On Monday you can look forward to the "Organ Expedition" in Budapest. Organist László Fassang can be heard here. Joseph-Maurice Weder will give a concert at the LAC Lugano on March 20 with works by Giger, Schumann, Dubugnon, Bianchi and Liszt.

On the 19th of March, a new performance of the opera "Ariadne auf Naxos" by Richard Strauss will take place at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg. This is where you can experience Ilia Papandreou in the lead role. Opera friends should also travel to Jena on Friday. Here "La Danse des Morts" by Arthur Honegger with the Jenaer Philharmonie and Robert Koller is brought to the stage.

Master classes, workshops and competitions

In Berlin, Prof. Gustav Rivinius will give a master class in the field of violoncello from March 18 to 23. The event takes place in Blackmore's Musikzimmer. On Saturday, Prof. Philipp Zeller will be offering a bassoon workshop for students and prospective students at the HfM Dresden. A master class in the for clarinet under Thorsten Johanns begins on March 24 in Montepulciano (Italy).

Especially pianists and organists should keep an eye on the approaching deadlines for music contests: Until March 19, you can apply for the International Contest Marguerite Long - Jacques Thibaud - Régine Crespin. The registration deadline for the Aram Khachaturian International Competition is March 20. Until Friday you will have time to apply for the Interpretation and Improvisation Competition of The International Organ Festival at St. Albans.
