Preview: October 1-7, 2018

After the summer break, we finally return with a new weekly preview for the first week of October. The season 2018/2019 has already begun with many exciting events and promises to continue this way.

Gerhard Siegel will continue to perform in Wagner's Ring Cycle at Covent Garden in London. The next performance of the "Rheingold" will take place on October 2. Langgaard's "Antikrist", directed by Hermann Bäumer, will resume at the Staatstheater Mainz on 6th of October. Clemens Schuldt conducts the Swedish Chamber Orchestra on Thursday, which together with soloist Göran Fröst brings works by Haydn, Nyström, Ravel and Pulenc to the stage of the Örebro Concertus. On October 5, Reinhard Goebel will be in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Here he conducts the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria with music by Clement, Eberl and Mozart.

The Kuss Quartet travels to Cuxhaven this week. There the ensemble will perform a concert with the pianist Ola Scheps on October 6. Tomoko Akasaka will start her Germany tour with the Amaryllis Quartet this week. The first concert will be held on October 6 at the Rilke-Konzertsaal Icking. Works by Mozart, Hosokawa and Brahms will be performed. Bratschistin Barbara Buntrock will give on a string trio concert with Thomas Reif (violin) and Isang Enders (violoncello) in Berlin's Orania Hotel on October 2. On Saturday she will be a guest at the Viertelklangfestival in Remscheid together with the Wupper Trio. Esther Saladin and the Ensemble Garage will perform at the M.A.R.S. Festival, while Claudio Bohórquez will perform at the Le Pont International Music Festival in the Japanese cities of Ako and Himeji from October 7 on. Violinist Sophia Jaffé is a guest at the Bratislava Music Festival, where she performs Sibelius' Violin Concerto together with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday.

At the beginning of the week, Peter Donohoe will give a piano recital in Iverness. Nicholas Rimmer will be in Warfleth this week where he will give a concert on the 3rd of October. Pianist Marianna Shirinyan interprets Beethoven's Cello Sonatas together with Natalie Clein at two concerts in London (October 4) and Cardiff (October 5). Kateryna Titova is invited together with Wolfgang Böttcher to perform a duo recital at the Theater Chur this Friday. The two artists are going to interpret works by Beethoven, Skyrabin and Shostakovitch. Organist László Fassang will give a concert titled "Organ Stories" in Budapest on October 3 with works by Liszt.

This week, Thorsten Johanns will not only be performing with his Raro ensemble at the Usedom Music Festival, where a concert entitled "White Landscapes" will take place on the 4th of October. From October 5 on there is the opportunity to experience the clarinetist in the master class in Mühlheim/Ruhr.
